There are flamingos in a few different spots at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. One spot is on the Kilimanjaro Safari attraction, where the jeep driver will tell you that flamingos are pink because of what they eat (shrimp, algae). There’s a rather amusing but informative explanation of this “you are what you eat” phenomenon that I found on Ask.com – you can find it here.
This photo wasn’t taken on the safari; I am not really good at taking decent photos from a lurching vehicle, and recently found that video from the safari is infinitely preferable! No, these flamingos are hanging out in one of the Tree of Life garden ponds. They aren’t as pink as the flamingos that I’ve seen and photographed in Busch Gardens. I wonder if the Busch Gardens flamingos are cheating?

Hey TInk! I seem to be following you around this week!
From what I’ve heard about flamingos, they get a darker pink around breeding season. So maybe that’s why they were a different color in Busch gardens?

i used to see flamingoes flying over our RAF station in Cyprus – long pink skeins.
Certainly synpathise about books – we shed half of ours to move to our island home.

They look so funny standing just on one leg ! I am sure I couldn’t do that for a long time, lol ! The dogs on my blog are not trained for attack, they are half wild, only used to the person who feeds them. These are no pets at all. It is a special breed. I am furiously opposed to attack training for a dog, and in Belgium it is not allowed !!

I love flamingos. They’re so colorful. We have some at the zoo here and they’re mixed – the lighter ones like you have pictured and the darker ones.

I never thought about why they are pink. I just thought it was interesting the way they stand on one leg, and such a skinny leg at that.

When Renee was little, she always giggled at the flamingos ‘hiding’ their heads. She wondered if they were just really shy-LOL!
