NOTE: if you’re looking for CAMERA CRITTERS, please sroll down to the next post.
Here are the shells I collected from the Lighthouse Beach yesterday. I soaked them overnight in a 50-50 bleach and water solutuon and took about an hour and a half this morning to pick the barnacles off. Two of them were non-viable – the barnacles were too tough to get off and they cracked.
This was so much work, I am not sure I want to go back today for low tide!

Nice figgy haul. You got some nice ones — but isn’t it funny how shells come in in bunches like that? When I first started shelling, 8 or 9 years ago, and the beach was littered with mainly one or two types of shell, I only picked up one of each because it seemed like they were so common and I figured I’d get another on my next visit. Of course, some of those shells I’ve NEVER seen again, and lots of them I don’t see too often. I remember once walking past cones and angel wings because I thought they must be soooo common, and now I’d be thrilled to find a few! Sigh, you make me want to be there!

I’ve tried commenting so many times today but kept getting a fuh-reaking browser error…ugh. Firstly, your shells are beautiful! Next time you’ll have to take a picture with the barnacles on them as I have no idea what a barnacle looks like! What do you do with these shells after you collect them? I have never heard of someone cleaning them and such (I also live in the mountains/desert of Utah so go figure!!)

They are gorgeous!
Renee is just dying to go shelling. If we ever make it down your way, will Auntie Tink show her the ropes?
